On December 12, 2011 Nokia launched the first MeeGo OS powered smartphone Nokia N9 in Pakistan. Henri Mattila, Solution Marketing Manager of Nokia Middle-East Asia was the key speaker and presented Nokia N9 to the bloggers. The most talked about smartphone and also known as “The Beast“, Samsung Galaxy SII finally made its way in Pakistan. Ufone launched the new Samsung Galaxy SII for their postpay customers on selected packages. The price of the handset is Rs.56,500 with 2 months of Free GPRS Internet, Bluetooth handfree and leather pouch.

Ufone Introduced 49paisa/30sec to Any Network in Pakistan

Ufone introduced the lowest call rate in Pakistan with the “30 Second Offer” package letting the customers call to any network in Pakistan at 49 paisa per 30 seconds without any daily charges. Report Spam SMS Text Messages to PTA

Since last year spam sms text messages are getting really annoying. I daily receive around 5 to 6 SMS with some advertisement about something and I have no idea from where they got my number to list it down their spamming list. SMS packages are very low-cost in Pakistan which resulted in SMS spamming. Finally Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken action towards it and introduced a service to report spam messages. It is announced publically by PTA that legal actions will be taken against the companies and individuals who are sending spam sms text messages.

How to Report Spam SMS Text Message to PTA?

Anyone using any mobile service (Mobilink, Telenor, Warid, Ufone, Zong) can report spam SMS text message to PTA.

Simply send SMS to ’9000′ with the following details:

Ufone to Charge 1.1% Maintenance Charges from 1st July 2011

A bad news for mobile phone customers who are using Ufone. Ufone sent out a message to their customers that from 1st of July 2011 they will be deducting another 1.1% charges for maintenance of Ufone service from their customers. It means Rs.1.10 will be charged extra when one loads a Rs.100 card or topup their accounts.

Pakistan’s mobile users are already paying huge amount of taxes on mobile phone service usage. Following are the number of taxes and deductions when you use your mobile phone:

On Recharge / top up / card load:
- GST : 19.5%
- Withholding Tax : 10%
- Services Charges : 5%
- Maintenance Charges : 1.1% (just added by Ufone)
On every call you make:
- GST : 19.5%

Yes, we are paying huge amount of GST and other taxes and service charges. I remember the time when outgoing call rates were around Rs.6.25/min and incoming charges were around Rs.4/min. I guess after all these charges and taxes, we are still paying Rs.6/min for a call. PTA must take some action against such charges and if I am not wrong PTA last year found out that most of the mobile companies are deducting hidden charges from their customers and were warned about it. PTA must take some serious action again.

Ufone Launching HTC Flyer 1.5Ghz 7″ Android Tablet For Rs.65,000

Ufone is becoming quite popular these days and as I have already mentioned in my previous few posts that the focus of telecom companies in Pakistan has changed from packages to handsets now. Ufone is planning to launch HTC Flyer quite soon which is a 1.5Ghz processor 7″ Android tablet.

Ufone has previously launched some amazing handsets including their first range of Huawei Android handsets. Then the high end HTC Incredible S smartphone was introduced. Later Ufone Uth Futura handset which is a hybrid handset using GSM and CDMA that can run Internet using PTCL Evo.

Karachi – 25th May, 2011: Consumers have declared Nokia as Pakistan’s most loved and admired brand across all 11 categories. This was revealed in an exclusive Top 10 brands report compiled by Nielsen in partnership with Campaign, offering insights into Pakistan’s consumer base.

Mobile phone brand Nokia emerged as the top brand in Pakistan with 84% likes, according to The Nielsen Company’s research into the market whereby it conducted face-to-face interviews with consumers across 22 cities in four provinces. During the research, both males and females representing age bracket of 18yrs – 45yrs and income group A, B, C & D were covered. The question asked during the research was “What is your most favorite brand for a category?” Ranking was then determined through the number of respondents who chose the brand as their most favorite.

Hamad Dar Wins HTC Incredible S For Ufone Bloggers Meetup Competition

Ufone in collaboration with HTC conducted a bloggers meetup in Marriott Islamabad, on 15th April 2011 to launch HTC Incredible S smartphone mobile handset. Two handsets were given on the spot by Ufone via lucky draw. For the third handset they announced a competition right at the spot which Hamad Dar won after getting most likes on Ufone Android facebook page.

Ufone announced that the blogger present at the event has to put a status message on Ufone Android facebook page. Whoever get the most likes on his status will win the third handset. PTCL Increased Line Rent and Offered Free Calls on Sunday

PTCL from 1st May 2011 has increased the line rent of the landline numbers from Rs.174 to Rs.199 and is offering free on-net calls (PTCL to PTCL and PTCL to Vfone) during Sundays and called it s “Super Sunday Offer“. The offer is valid for two months period starting from 1st May 2011. Now PTCL Customers can call to any local or nationwide on-net number for free on Sundays.

Effective from May 1st, 2011 PTCL has increased the line rent of the landline numbers from Rs.174 to Rs.199 (excluding tax). To compensate for this, PTCL has offered free unlimited on-net calls during Sundays for the next two months.

PTCL claims that they initiated this so that the people start using the landline numbers again who have moved on to the cellular networks. But to my personal opinion PTCL is playing a very tactful game to increase the rates of their services. From Rs.2.3 per call PTCL moved to Rs.2.3 per 5minutes and then later to Rs.2.3 per 3minutes but finally landed to the Rs.1 per minute call rate. So I guess, there is no difference left in calling from PTCL or any mobile network, rather Mobile network call charges are lesser in some places.
