Mobilink and Telenor To Share Towers

Making the world Green is every company’s top priority these days plus it saves a lot of money too. Mobilink and Telenor taking the step further in Go Green, signs an agreement to share towers and network infrastructure so that less carbon emits from the tower booster’s base station. Mobilink last month signed up a similar agreement with Ufone to share towers.

Taking the step further now Mobilink signed up the agreement with Telenor too, just like they did couple of weeks ago with Ufone for network tower sharing. The agreement was signed at Mobilink House between Rashid Khan, President and CEO Mobilink, and Christian Albech, CEO Telenor Pakistan.

Telenor To Charge Almost Rs.3 on Calls To Helpline

On 13th March 2011, Telenor in a newspaper advertisement type of notification publicly announced that all calls to helpline will be charged at Rs.2+tax if the customer talks to the customer service representative officer (CSR). It means that they are already charging 25paisa+tax on the IVR number and when you select the option ZERO to talk to the customer services representative you will be charged Rs.2+tax extra.

IVR Call to 345 charges are 25paisa+3paisa (tax) = 28paisa

IVR Call to 345 + Talk to CSR will be charged 28paisa (for IVR) + Rs.2+ (38paisa) tax = Rs.2.79

The above mentioned charges will be applicable from 9th April 2011. These charges apply for djuice and Telenor talkshawk customers.

Not to forget that Mobilink is already charging Rs.2.42 for calls to helpline since November 2010. Call to helpline numbers used to be free couple of years back, but later were charged to stop all the prank callers who used to disturb CSRs and effect their internal ranking. The initial charges which started on the helplines were 50paisa+tax and later were increased to Rs.1+tax. So almost every year this rate is revised saying that it is increased so that the company can put in more CSRs to help the customers. Rather I think, the companies are not able to afford the CSRs anymore as all of them has started downsizing and started hiring on contract basis or some have outsourced. I hope the next year these charges don’t hike up to Rs.5+tax and becomes the only powerful source of the cellular companies to earn profit from helpline calls where no airtime charges apply and the money charged to the customer goes directly into the pocket of the company.

With the support of Tameer Bank, Telenor was able to start this service and is expanding day by day. Easy Paisa today started a one day contest on telenor easy paisa facebook page.

The contest’s name is ‘what am i?’ and the people have to guess what product or service the status message is referring to. The question is:

CNN Report on Telenor Easy Paisa Service

PTA Released QoS Report of All Mobile Operators in Pakistan

Pakistan Telecom Association (PTA) has released a report on all the mobile operators in Pakistan including Mobilink, Ufone, Telenor, WaridTel, CMPak (Zong). In this report PTA conducted a quality of service test on all the networks in different cities of Pakistan and with different aspects. After checking the report, I am still not able to figure out that which mobile service is the best in Pakistan. Ufone is covering the most areas in cities (average score of 98.84%). Whereas, Mobilink ranks on top in voice quality service (average score 2.32). On an overall average that I calculated, Mobilink is the best service in Pakistan with average score of 97.57% in area wise coverage, 97.8% in maintainability and 2.32/3.00 in voice quality. Following is the summary of the report.

A month back Telenor announced a new unique kind of service named “Easy Paisa” by which anyone (either he/she is a mobile user or not) can pay their utility bills at any Telenor outlet. As promised by Telenor, that they will give more to the people, today started a new service as a part of their Easy Paisa program called “Money Transfer”.

Telenor started the joint venture with Tameer Bank and started the service of Easy Paisa. Now with the help of their new feature added to the Easy Paisa program people across Pakistan can now transfer money to anyone using this easy paisa service. Whether you have a mobile phone or not, that does not matter anymore for Telenor.

Instructions to send money to anyone using Telenor Easy Paisa:

Sender must have the originalnational ID card issued by Nadra.
Sender needs to bring a photo-copy of national ID card too.
Sender needs to provide only the number of national ID card of the receiver.
Sender can provide his own and receiver’s mobile number too. If the sender provides it, then sender and receiver both receive the confirmation of money transfer. (Optional)
Telenor Easy Paisa Outlet (EPOP) person will transfer the money using the similar procedure like balance sharing.
EPOP will ask the sender to enter a secret transaction code number. (Do not share this code number with anyone else, even the EPOP)
EPOP will give you a receipt of the transaction with the transaction ID.
Pay the amount (Sending Amount + Transaction Charges) to EPOP.

Instructions for receiving money:

Receiver must have the original national ID card (NIC) issued by Nadra.
Receiver needs to bring a photocopy of the NIC too.

Telenor Pakistan launched their customer web portal today with the name of Telenor Persona Weblounge. With the help of this online weblounge customers can not only buy new connections, they can even use the mobile network portability option and get their connection on the Telenor network. The Telenor Persona customers can pay and view their bills online.

With the help of Direct deposit option (if customer enables it) they will be automatically charge every month from their credit card for the usage of their mobile connection.
